Available first time to older Indochinese community in 1989, the IERA-VIC’s Planned Activity Group (PAG) is outreach programs that assist frailly aged and disabled Indochinese in various forms. The major goal of the PAG is to support an individual’s ability to live at home and in the community by providing a planned program of activities. The program also offers the opportunity for social interaction as well as respite and support for carers.
With a funding from the Department of Human Services, the IERA-VIC has in-kind contributed to the PAG. The PAG is available to Vietnamese age 60 and older through collaboration with mainstream elderly service providers. The program is coordinated by Hung Doan of IERA-VIC.
The PAG is excellent vehicle to provide socialization opportunities for Vietnamese elderly by taking them on outings such as traditional community festivals, picnics, bus trips and park concerts. Participants meet in small friendly groups, to join in planned activities and links to a range of allied health and other appropriate cultural services. In addition, the program provides Tai Chi class guided by instructors or specialists from the ISIS Primary Care. Participants may also join in English classes at the program venues.
Upon receiving a request for service, the PAG Coordinator will make an appointment to visit and assess the prospective client. This is to ensure the program is suitable for the person concerned.
