The first days of winter did little to dampen spirits at Mekong Aged Care Keilor East, where residents enjoyed a lively BBQ gathering on Friday, 5 June 2026.

The morning began with music and gentle exercise in House A Dining Room, led by the Lifestyle Team. While residents stretched and moved along to familiar tunes, staff outside were busy preparing the BBQ. Before long, the mouth-watering aroma of grilled lamb, pork belly, chicken wings and sausages drifted through the facility. Vegan residents were also treated to delectable vegan skewers. The fun continued with a trivia session that had everyone smiling and laughing.

The highlight of the morning was, of course, the BBQ itself. Staff carefully prepared the food into easy-to-eat portions before serving it to residents. For the occasion, the dining room was rearranged into one long communal table, giving everyone the chance to enjoy lunch together.

Adding to the festive atmosphere were musical performances by staff and volunteers. From folk songs and bolero classics to much-loved Vietnamese favourites, the music had residents singing along and making requests right up until the end of the event.

The BBQ was more than just a meal—it was an opportunity for residents, staff and volunteers to come together, share stories and enjoy each other’s company. Despite the chilly weather outside, the home was filled with warmth, laughter and a wonderful sense of community.
