Residents and families at Mekong Cairnlea were treated to a very special cultural event on Saturday, 13 June 2026, when the Hoa Ngoc Lan Vietnamese Opera Troupe visited the home for a live performance.
The event was attended by Ms U Truong (Kensington Sub-branch Leader), Mr Denis Jones (Director of Aged & Community Care Services), members of the clinical team, and many Mekong staff, all coming together to share an afternoon of music, theatre and cherished memories with our residents.

The talented performers brought to life a selection of well-loved Vietnamese opera classics, including Tieng Trong Me Linh, Nguyet Ho Vuong, Tuong Cuop Bach Hai Duong, and Luong Son Ba – Chuc Anh Dai. For many residents, these stories and melodies were a treasured part of their younger years, yet opportunities to experience a live Vietnamese opera performance in Australia are rare.

With colourful costumes, charismatic acting and powerful singing, the troupe captivated the audience from beginning to end. The room was filled with applause after every performance, and several residents even recorded the show on their phones to relive the memories later and share them with their loved ones.

At Mekong, we believe that meaningful aged care is about much more than meeting physical needs. Celebrating language, culture and lifelong traditions helps our residents maintain a strong connection with their identity and community. Events like this Vietnamese opera performance not only bring joy and entertainment but also create moments of nostalgia, conversation and shared experience.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Hoa Ngọc Lan troupe for their wonderful performance and for helping us bring a treasured part of Vietnamese culture to our residents. We look forward to welcoming them back again in the future.
